The Pirelli Calendar Gets An Empowering Update!

For those of you who aren’t familiar, the Pirelli calendar, (also known as “The Cal”), is a highly-anticipated annual release, normally featuring A-list models, photographed by the most reputable photographers in the business. But all that is about to change. This year, the calendar will feature a fresh group of inspirational women, photographed by the legendary Annie Leibovitz. The new version will include thirteen female musicians, actresses, writers, models, artists, filmmakers, finance executives and philanthropists, all picked by Leibovitz. Among the talented list, Rookie‘s Tavi Gevinson, Serena Williams, Amy Schumer, Yoko Ono, Fran Lebowitz, Patti Smith, Natalia Vodianova, Kathleen Kennedy, Yao Chen, Mellody Hobson, Ava DuVernay, Agnes Gund and Shirin Neshat. “I started to think about the roles that women play, women who have achieved something. I wanted to make a classic set of portraits.” Leibowitz stated during an interview. “I thought that the women should look strong but natural and I decided to keep it a very simple exercise of shooting in the studio. This calendar is so completely different. It is a departure. The idea was not to have any pretense …

Lady Gaga’s New Music Video Shines Powerful Light on Sexual Assault

Say what you will about Lady Gaga, but at the end of the day, the songstress knows how to draw attention to a certain cause. Whether it’s regarding the LGBT community or Gender Equality, Gaga isn’t afraid to speak out. This time around, the artist is drawing awareness to sexual assault. In the recently released music video for her new song, Til It Happens To You, Gaga sent a strong message to sexual assault survivors. The video is extremely difficult to watch-I couldn’t help myself from tearing up-but is unfortunately the raw reality of the situation. According to RAINN, (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network) every 107 seconds another American is sexually assaulted, adding up to a total of 293,000 assaults per year. What’s worse, most of these assaults happen in college, with one in five women becoming victims. Although I have never been a victim, I have close friends who have. With that being said, I’ve seen firsthand the toll it takes on someone who has been a victim to such a brutal act. It’s disgusting …

Carly Fiorina Tests Donald Trumps Dominance

If you were fortunate enough to tune into last night’s Republican debate, you would have witnessed some compelling television. Honestly, I never knew politics could be so engrossing. And here I thought Real Housewives was entertaining. Anyways, enough about me and my unhealthy taste in television. The debate started off neutral, swiftly picking up momentum, with most of the candidates introducing interesting views. However, it was Carly Fiorina who stole the show. When asked to respond about a blatantly rude comment Donald Trump had made regarding her looks, Fiorina responded with poise and elegance. “I think women all over this country heard what Mr. Trump said” she commented, during last night’s debate. But it was the interview Fiorina gave the following morning, which truly ignited the flame. Early on Thursday morning, Fiorina sat down with CNN News Day and explained how Trump’s emphasis on her appearance represents the sexism which is still evidently apparent in today’s American politics. “It’s still different for women,” she said  “It’s only a woman whose appearance would be talked about while running for president — never a …

Elizabeth Banks Possibly To Direct ‘Charlie’s Angels’ Reboot!

I’ve been harboring a bit of a girl crush on Elizabeth Banks, lately. She’s smart, hilarious and exceptionally gorgeous. Not to mention, she’s a successfully talented film director. Coming off her victorious directorial debut of this summer’s Pitch Perfect 2, Banks is reportedly in talks to direct a reboot of Charlie’s Angels. You know, the iconic 70’s television series revolving around three women who kick ass together? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Banks is in the middle of negotiating with Sony. This wouldn’t be the first time a reboot as been made. You’ll remember the first remake, which starred Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu, back in 2000. Then there was the very short-lived television series back in 2011, which never made past its fourth episode. However, seeing how Pitch Perfect 2 made over $70 million domestically, something tells me Banks will be up for the challenge. I can only imagine who Sony will cast as the dynamic threesome.

Best Looks From The 2015 Venice Film Festival

Each year, much like the Oscars, celebrities gather together to appreciate well-crafted films. Only, rather than an extensive red carpet along Hollywood Blvd, this particular event takes place on a marshy lagoon, where stone palaces see to rise out of the Adriatic Sea. The place is Venice, Italy and the event is the Venice Film Festival. And, although the films are nothing less than exceptional, it’s the impeccable fashion which truly  catches one’s eye. Simply think of it as a more cultured, less starchy Academy Awards. So, without further delay, I thought I would introduce you a few of my favorite looks from the entire event.

The Row is Relocating To Paris

I’ve always been a huge fan of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. I literally use to own every film they ever made, and watch it on replay as a child. Don’t judge, I was six-years-old. My affinity for the sisters only grew stronger when they created their first clothing line, The Row, back in 2006, followed by Elizabeth and James shortly after. When it was announced that the sisters wouldn’t be showcasing their new season this year at NYFW, I almost had a heart attack. Not really, of course. I like to consider myself rather healthy. But fret not Olsen fans, the sisters aren’t retiring from the fashion industry. That would simply be unheard of. They’re merely relocating to the city of light, Paris. Seems only realistic considering it’s where the greats such as Chanel, Givenchy, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, and Balenciaga were first situated. This won’t be the first time the sisters relocated their brand to Pairs. Back in 2011, the brand showcased their S/S 15′ collection, only to move back to NYC when  the samples weren’t able …

The Urgency To Settle Down

Remember a time when being unmarried by twenty-four was considered spinsterhood? Girls were engaged at sixteen and bore their first child by eighteen. It seemed as though there was this profound urgency to settle down and create a family back then. Flash forward to the twenty first century and it seems as though the bracket for settling down is becoming wider. I’ve never given marriage much thought. I was never the girl who fantasied about my wedding dress or which flavor wedding cake I should choose. It’s not that I don’t believe in marriage, it’s just I’ve never pictured that life for myself. But now that I’m heading into my mid 20’s, it seems as though I cannot escape the topic of marriage. Most of my friends are either engaged or married and some have already had their first child. Not to mention, whenever I’m flipping channels there seems to be nothing on but Bridezillas or Say Yes to the Dress. Am I going insane or is the universe trying to tell me something? One in five adults (42 million) …
