Feminism Meets Fashion at Chanel SS15

I’m a huge believer in equality. I think everyone should be treated fairly, and that undoubtedly includes woman. Woman are such important players in the game of life, and therefore should be treated as such. With that being said, I very much consider my self a feminist. It seems that the topic of feminism, or even considering yourself a feminist, is such a delicate topic to discuss for certain individuals. Even though that might be the case for some, it seems a vast majority of individuals are speaking out regardless. Supporters of the #HeforShe campaign, (a campaign centering around gender rights) include Russell Crowe, Tom Hiddleston, Harry Styles, Chris Colfer, and Emma Watson; who courageously stood in front of the UN, and delivered a breathtaking speech on the matter recently. Another name to add to the ever populating list, is one Mr. Karl Largerfeld. You know, the Creative Director of Chanel. Earlier today, the legendary designer unveiled his SS15 collection, and the theme appeared to be centered around important discussions which are overtaking our country; feminism …

Movie Style Icon: Catherine Deneuve in Repulsion

If you are not yet familiar with the name Roman Polanski, it’s high time you get educated. Many who are accustomed to the directorial genius know him through his iconic horror film, Rosmary’s Baby (1968). Although the film is most likely one of my favorite films of all time, (who can resist a horror film where a woman becomes impregnated by the devil with the Anti-Christ?); it’s not my favorite Polanski film. If I had to choose which from the vast collection of Polanski’s films, I would undoubtedly choose Repulsion (1965) . The film follows Belgian manicurist, Carol Ledoux (played by the gorgeous Catherine Deneuve) who is living with her sister in a London flat. Both attracted and disgusted with sex, a virginal Carol begins to mentally fall apart when her sister and her sister’s boyfriend go on holiday and leave Carol alone by herself. Carol begins to hallucinate and ultimately retreat into omitting murder. Both psychologically disturbing and suspenseful addictive, this film is by far one of my favorite of Polanski.

My April Wish-List

As we get further into spring, and the temps begin to rise, I find myself gravitating more towards “pretty” clothing. As you can see from my “April Wish-List” below; there’s not a single dark color in sight. In fact, the majority of the collection is entirely in pastels. For my “April Wish-List”, I decided to go with floral’s and light colors because to me, that’s the whole representation of spring. One of my favorite items in the collection is this Emporio Armani structured tote, which I chose in turquoise. I recently took a new job as an e-commerce assistant at a luxury lingerie boutique and therefore need a bag which will fit everything from my i-Pad to my lipstick. That, apart from the totally chic design and color, was why I chose the tote. Everything pretty much speaks for itself. When I first saw this floral, Oscar de la Renta dress, I’ll admit I was a little afraid. I’m not exactly one for girly prints but the more I glanced at the dress; the more I felt …

The Best CC Creams on the Market

I’m starting to find that make-up innovations are very similar to the fashion industry. Quoting Hedi Klum’s infamous words from Project Runway, “One day you’re in, the next you’re out”; I’ve come to realize make-up inventions are very much the same. It seemed just yesterday that the wondrous beauty trend known as BB Cream was all the rage. Now however, there seems to be a new beauty contender on the market that promises even better results. CC Cream is the name,  and if beauty scientists are correct; it delivers 10 times the coverage, SPF, and correction than BB Cream alone. CC Cream, which stands for “coverage and correction” first landed on the market in early 2013. Now it appears there isn’t a make-up company which doesn’t produce a version of their own. But with so many options to choose from, finding the right one for you can be slightly difficult. Thankfully for you, I’ve complied a list of only the best CC Creams on the market, so all you have to do is run on …

Chanel Fall 14′ RTW Highlights

Mr. Lagerfeld is no stranger to the unusual and extraordinary. In fact, he’s pretty much the epitome of both. During the unveiling of his Fall 14′ RTW collection, the legendary designer wasn’t playing coy when it comes to his talents for the visual arts. The entire atmosphere was set up to resemble that of a grocery store, with models casually strolling down what appeared to be supermarket isles complete with actual food. If you were lucky enough to be present at the Paris show, it was definitely a marvelous sight to see. So marvelous that Rihanna, Cara Delevingne, and Keira Knightly showed up to waltz down the supermarket inspired runway. Despite the collection being crafted for fall, there was no sign of the darker hues one usually witnesses in a A/W RTW collection. Instead, models wore ensembles made from beautiful hues such as pastel pink, neon yellow, and bright green. As for the accessories, models carried actual supermarket baskets decked out in the iconic Chanel tweed fabric. Now that’s what I call an entertaining runway show …

Runway Review: Chanel Pre-Fall 2014

As the lights went down at Dallas’s Fair Park on Tuesday night, the 2014 Chanel Pre-Fall runway collection was unveiled. Celebrities including Dakota Fanning, Kristen Stewart, Lily Collins, and Lauren Hutton all showed up to view the collection which was nothing if not spectacular. The Métiers d’Art runway show, which is another name for the annual event, honors the 11 couture workshops that Chanel has been buying since the 80’s. The event was cleverly divided into three parts which included a “drive-in” screening of the short film, The Return, which was directed by none other than the brand’s legendary artistic director; Karl Lagerfeld. But apart from the prior festivities which took place before the actual show began, the main story here is the collection itself. Models strode down the rodeo-inspired runway dressed head-to-toe in Western enthused ensembles, which included denim, pearl, and fringe detailing. When asked about the influences that stirred the collection, Lagerfeld stated he was inspired by Houston socialite, Lynn Wyatt. Just glancing at the collection one gets a feeling of romanticism combined with equestrian elegance. It is no …
