The Derogative Goodness That Is Scream Queens

Okay, I’m a huge Ryan Murphy fan. I’m not ashamed to admit I’ve shamelessly sung along to every episode of  Glee, and feverishly watched every season of American Horror Story. Although, to be honest, Freak Show was something of a disappointment. Call me crazy, but I prefer to watch the talent that is Jessica Lange play confident and witty characters. Elsa Mars was neither. But enough about Murphy’s prior television shows. Living in the past is, well, so last season. Let us flash forward to the present, where Murphy has created a new television series to add to his evolving list; Scream Queens. The show is quintessential Murphy, including an abundance of stereotypical characters and an endless repartee of insulting remarks, which, although we would rather not admit; are incredibly humorous. The show, which premiered last Tuesday, takes place on a college campus, and revolves around a series of mysterious murders taking place within a sorority. The murders, occur merely two decades after a similar murder was committed within the same sorority. Now, this is isn’t your …

The Pirelli Calendar Gets An Empowering Update!

For those of you who aren’t familiar, the Pirelli calendar, (also known as “The Cal”), is a highly-anticipated annual release, normally featuring A-list models, photographed by the most reputable photographers in the business. But all that is about to change. This year, the calendar will feature a fresh group of inspirational women, photographed by the legendary Annie Leibovitz. The new version will include thirteen female musicians, actresses, writers, models, artists, filmmakers, finance executives and philanthropists, all picked by Leibovitz. Among the talented list, Rookie‘s Tavi Gevinson, Serena Williams, Amy Schumer, Yoko Ono, Fran Lebowitz, Patti Smith, Natalia Vodianova, Kathleen Kennedy, Yao Chen, Mellody Hobson, Ava DuVernay, Agnes Gund and Shirin Neshat. “I started to think about the roles that women play, women who have achieved something. I wanted to make a classic set of portraits.” Leibowitz stated during an interview. “I thought that the women should look strong but natural and I decided to keep it a very simple exercise of shooting in the studio. This calendar is so completely different. It is a departure. The idea was not to have any pretense …

Lady Gaga’s New Music Video Shines Powerful Light on Sexual Assault

Say what you will about Lady Gaga, but at the end of the day, the songstress knows how to draw attention to a certain cause. Whether it’s regarding the LGBT community or Gender Equality, Gaga isn’t afraid to speak out. This time around, the artist is drawing awareness to sexual assault. In the recently released music video for her new song, Til It Happens To You, Gaga sent a strong message to sexual assault survivors. The video is extremely difficult to watch-I couldn’t help myself from tearing up-but is unfortunately the raw reality of the situation. According to RAINN, (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network) every 107 seconds another American is sexually assaulted, adding up to a total of 293,000 assaults per year. What’s worse, most of these assaults happen in college, with one in five women becoming victims. Although I have never been a victim, I have close friends who have. With that being said, I’ve seen firsthand the toll it takes on someone who has been a victim to such a brutal act. It’s disgusting …

Carly Fiorina Tests Donald Trumps Dominance

If you were fortunate enough to tune into last night’s Republican debate, you would have witnessed some compelling television. Honestly, I never knew politics could be so engrossing. And here I thought Real Housewives was entertaining. Anyways, enough about me and my unhealthy taste in television. The debate started off neutral, swiftly picking up momentum, with most of the candidates introducing interesting views. However, it was Carly Fiorina who stole the show. When asked to respond about a blatantly rude comment Donald Trump had made regarding her looks, Fiorina responded with poise and elegance. “I think women all over this country heard what Mr. Trump said” she commented, during last night’s debate. But it was the interview Fiorina gave the following morning, which truly ignited the flame. Early on Thursday morning, Fiorina sat down with CNN News Day and explained how Trump’s emphasis on her appearance represents the sexism which is still evidently apparent in today’s American politics. “It’s still different for women,” she said  “It’s only a woman whose appearance would be talked about while running for president — never a …

Elizabeth Banks Possibly To Direct ‘Charlie’s Angels’ Reboot!

I’ve been harboring a bit of a girl crush on Elizabeth Banks, lately. She’s smart, hilarious and exceptionally gorgeous. Not to mention, she’s a successfully talented film director. Coming off her victorious directorial debut of this summer’s Pitch Perfect 2, Banks is reportedly in talks to direct a reboot of Charlie’s Angels. You know, the iconic 70’s television series revolving around three women who kick ass together? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Banks is in the middle of negotiating with Sony. This wouldn’t be the first time a reboot as been made. You’ll remember the first remake, which starred Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu, back in 2000. Then there was the very short-lived television series back in 2011, which never made past its fourth episode. However, seeing how Pitch Perfect 2 made over $70 million domestically, something tells me Banks will be up for the challenge. I can only imagine who Sony will cast as the dynamic threesome.

Eddie Reymayne Shines in New Trailer For “The Danish Girl”

If you’ve seen last year’s The Theory of Everything, you would already know Oscar winner Eddie Reymayne is quite talented. Actually, no, talented doesn’t even begin to describe the Brit’s affinity for complex characters. I first discovered British actor, Eddie Reymayne, while watching the 2007 film, Savage Grace. Eddie Reymayne’s career hadn’t quite taken off yet, but it was apparent from his invigorating performance that he was soon going to become a major star. Flash forward to 2014, and it seemed as if there wasn’t a person alive in Hollywood, who didn’t know who Eddie was. Perhaps that’s because the actor’s talent onscreen knows no bounds. Earlier today, the first trailer for Redmayne’s highly anticipated films, The Danish Girl was released. The film tells the true story of artist Lili Elbe, who was the first man to undergo gender reassignment surgery in the 1930s. Before Reymayne accepted his role in the film, he admitted to Out magazine he had a lot to learn when it came to transgenderism. “My greatest ignorance when I started was that gender and sexuality …

Miley Cyrus Introduces Us to Pansexuality

Pansexual: |Pan-sec-shoo-all| Adjective Definition: Pansexuals have the capability of attraction to others regardless of their gender identity or biological sex. A pansexual could be open to someone who is male, female, transgender, intersex, or agendered/genderqueer. There are so many images which come to mind when one thinks of Miley Cyrus. Hannah Montana and foam fingers are just among the many. It’s no secret that the former Disney starlet is desperate to break free from her once good girl image. One only needs to Youtube Miley Cyrus 2013 VMA’s to figure that one out. But just in case you were wondering about her sexual orientation, because you know it’s been on our minds forever, the mystery is now over. In a recent interview with ELLE UK Magazine, Miley explained that she is neither heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual.  Instead, Miley told the fashion magazine that she refers to herself as pansexual. But what exactly does that really mean? Being the curious individual that I am, I decided to do a little research, in order to identify just what exactly it means to be pansexual. …
