Some might think celebrity children have it easy. But famous or not, being a teenager is tough. What with studying for exams, identity crisis, relationships, and choosing which college to apply to, being a teenager in the twenty-first century has proven to be challenging. Gone are the idealistic images of 1950’s, where every situation could be solved with an ice-cream cone or an episode of Leave It To Beaver.
When you factor in struggling with your sexuality, the complications of being teenager only escalate. Especially when you have to fight that battle within the public eye. But one individual, whose parents are no strangers to the public eye, is joining the ongoing battle to banish sexuality labels. I speak of course, of Lily-Rose Depp. Daughter of Johnny Depp? Captain Sparrow? Ringing any bells here?
Anyways, the incredibly wise, and brave, 16-year-old, took to Instagram on Monday afternoon, and posted a heartfelt picture for photographer iO Tillett Wright‘s Self Evident Project. For those who aren’t as familiar with the site, it “exists to spread awareness and understanding about a broader spectrum of human sexuality.” Wright spoke to Refinery29 on Monday, and explained “The stipulation for having your portrait taken for the project is that you feel you are somewhere on the spectrum.”
It’s still unclear whether Lily is officially coming out, but regardless of the fact, Lily-Rose is definitely paving the way for teens who are struggling with the choice to speak out regarding their sexuality.
