Best Dressed at The 2015 CFDA’s

The Council of Fashion Designers of America, aka The CFDA’s, is a night filled with fashion-forward hotties, coming together to celebrate lifetime achievements within the fashion industry. Just think of it as The Academy Awards for fashion. That’ll help you get into the right frame of mind.

The event spared no expense, and neither did those who attended. So let us break down the awards, as well as the memorable fashion moments, and trust me; there were a few!

Womenswear Designer of the Year: Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen for The Row
By far one of the most innovative, and eccentric brands in the game, The Row has grown into a multi-million dollar success since it’s ordination back in 2006. With 188 exclusive stores, and 37 countries housing the brand’s iconic items, The Olsen’s have truly made a concrete name for themselves in the international fashion world.

Menswear Designer of the Year: Tom Ford

Accessories Designer of the Year: Tabitha Simmons

Swarovski Award for Womenswear: Rosie Assoulin
Rosie Assoulin began sewing at age 13, when she discovered her grandmothers sewing machine. Over time, Assoulin began to develop fashion as a way of thinking, and a encyclopedic understanding. Assoulin’s designs are unique and fascinating, yet practical and extremely versatile. The 2015 collection incorporates sportswear with structured evening separates and gowns

Swarovski Award for Menswear: Shayne Oliver for Hood by Air

Swarovski Award for Accessory Design: Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel for Mansur Gavriel

Geoffrey Beene lifetime Achievement Award: Betsey Johnson
Betsey Johnson accepted her award in true Betsey fashion, a cartwheel on stage. This fashion icon has had many accomplishments and triumphs in her career, including the 1972 Coty Winnie Award, 1999 CFDA Timeless Talent Award, 2002 Johnson was inducted into the Fashion Walk of Fame, and perhaps her greatest triumph is being a breast cancer survivor. This colorful fashion icon has truly given the fashion world something to smile about and continues to raise money for breast cancer awareness.

The Media Award in Honour of Eugenia Sheppard: Instagram

International Award: Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli for Valentino

Style Icon Award: Pharrell Williams
Pharrell gave a moving and inspirational speech, 15 minutes to be exact, which reminded us all “that as long as one has a dream nothing can stop one from accomplishing it. It does not matter where you come from or how much money you have, if you have a passion pursue it”.

I am a journalistic enthusiast, born and bred in Washington, D.C. When I'm not busy meticulously constructing posts, I can be found burying my head in an epic novel, cooking a delicious mess in the kitchen, scouring local thrift stores, and spending way too much time binging on Netflix (Arrested Development anyone?). I cannot live without a good playlist (Billy Holiday is preferred), working wifi (sometimes not always working), and Dunkin Donuts coffee (caramel swirl is my go-to flavor). If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to direct them to the email below. Happy Reading!
