It would seem that Mr. West is having quite the week. He performed a memorable duet with the legendary Paul McCartney and Rihanna (while finding time to poke fun at himself) during The Grammy’s, supposedly made up with Taylor Swift, and apparently collaborated with one of the most iconic brands of all time. Right about now, one is beginning to wonder if there’s a portion of the universe The West clan can’t conquer. Apparently when it comes to the fabulous world that is fashion, that’s said to be the case. And what better way to prove oneself than at the most exclusive fashion event of the season; New York Fashion Week? It was Day 1 at New York Fashion Week and there was a precise sense of enthusiastic uncertainty in the air. After all, one never knows what to expect during these exceptionally thrilling events. It was here where Kanye decided to debut his new collaboration with the German sportswear brand that is Adidas. The entire show was everything one would expect from something with the West name attached to it; voluminous and overwrought. Although the same cannot be said for the muted color palate and obvious militaristic inspirations which are widely noticeable throughout the collection.
Models, donning buzzcut hairstyles, were dressed in body conscious undergarments, camo M-65 jackets and crop tops, which were apparently made from recycled Adidas socks. The silhouettes were loose while the hems remained frayed, and everything in the collection was said to be unisex. The entire collection appeared to have been created for a post zombie apocalypse television series, in which Kanye is the lead character. One can only wonder how Rick Grimes would feel towards such a collection. But all joking aside, the overall collection seems a bit confusing. It’s as if it started out one way and decided to take a different turn somewhere in the middle; getting lost somewhere in translation along the way. Here’s hoping that Taylor Swift collaboration is in the works.
