After watching an episode of Sex and the City, (you know the episode when Carrie goes in for a trim but gets a Brazilian instead?), I instantly realized it was about time to receive my first wax. However, being only fourteen at the time, there was no way my mom was going to go for the idea. With that being the case, I opted for the next best thing; a “Do It Yourself Waxing Kit”. As if the title wasn’t enough to inform me this would be a bad idea, I decided to go ahead with my little “experiment” anyways.
An hour later, and multiple judgmental glares from the 20-something-year-old cashier at CVS, I was locked in my bathroom; ready to begin. It wasn’t until I was 20 minutes into my “experiment” when I discovered it was the worst idea I had ever conjured up. The sympathy I felt for Steve Carell in The 40-Year-Old Virgin was somehow reaching new heights. It was then that I made a vow to never wax or shave again as long as I lived. It wasn’t until bikini season rolled around when I realized the promise I made to myself wouldn’t work out.
So, I did the only thing I could do, I went to my mom and explained everything. The very next day, my mom booked me a quick, slightly painful, visit to the salon. It turned out she wasn’t completely oblivious to the fact of me having my first wax at fourteen. Since then, I steer clear of anything D.I.Y; except when it comes to home decor. But it got me thinking, how many woman out there are in the same position I was in nine years ago. When it comes to “grooming”, which route is the best one to take?
Most woman are too busy to consider grooming while the other percentage of us make it a priority. Perhaps the reason for this is because many of us think it’s unnecessary or downright uncomfortable. At the end of the day, it all comes down to peer pressure and the need to constantly be perfect. Let’s be honest, 98% of us aren’t supermodels straight out of a swimsuit catalog. We’re real, human beings with highly functional lifestyles; which means most of us could care less about “Personal Grooming”. Personally, I can’t stand the smallest amount of hair being anywhere near my “nether regions”.
But that’s just me. The truth is, there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to your body, and the hair attached to it. Only you can decide what you want to do with it because only you know what feels right. At the end of the day, no one can tell you what to do. They seem to have missed that section in Physical Education. If you want to go native, go native. If you want to bareback it, go for it. Just remember to let a professional handle your goods. Trust me, you really don’t want to handle it yourself. For more information about “Personal Grooming”, click here
