Feminism Meets Fashion at Chanel SS15

I’m a huge believer in equality. I think everyone should be treated fairly, and that undoubtedly includes woman. Woman are such important players in the game of life, and therefore should be treated as such. With that being said, I very much consider my self a feminist. It seems that the topic of feminism, or even considering yourself a feminist, is such a delicate topic to discuss for certain individuals. Even though that might be the case for some, it seems a vast majority of individuals are speaking out regardless. Supporters of the #HeforShe campaign, (a campaign centering around gender rights) include Russell Crowe, Tom Hiddleston, Harry Styles, Chris Colfer, and Emma Watson; who courageously stood in front of the UN, and delivered a breathtaking speech on the matter recently. Another name to add to the ever populating list, is one Mr. Karl Largerfeld.

You know, the Creative Director of Chanel.

Earlier today, the legendary designer unveiled his SS15 collection, and the theme appeared to be centered around important discussions which are overtaking our country; feminism being one of the topics. Largerfeld is famous for his unique and creative fashion shows, but his SS15 show appears to be the most interesting, if not ingenious. Models strode down, what appeared to be a street-like runway, donning colorful, tweed pantsuits, cleverly paired with purses which resembled briefcases. The entire collection reminded me of how woman dressed in the 80’s, powerful and successful. It is certainly a collection infused with notes of strength and power. Two characteristics which define the women of today. Once again, Largerfeld has created a collection fit for the woman of today’s society.

I am a journalistic enthusiast, born and bred in Washington, D.C. When I'm not busy meticulously constructing posts, I can be found burying my head in an epic novel, cooking a delicious mess in the kitchen, scouring local thrift stores, and spending way too much time binging on Netflix (Arrested Development anyone?). I cannot live without a good playlist (Billy Holiday is preferred), working wifi (sometimes not always working), and Dunkin Donuts coffee (caramel swirl is my go-to flavor).
