There has been quite the debate when it comes to plaid. Some hate it and others welcome it with open arms. I’ll be the first to admit that it can occasionally be hard to pull the particular trend off without looking like a schoolgirl or Scotsman. But leave it to the fashion devotees of today to find the appropriate way to feature the look without looking like either of the above. Instead, fashion bloggers and fashionistas everywhere seem to have the look down; pairing it with other fall trends such as cable knits or leather.
I’m quite the fan of the look. I feel it’s a nostalgic nod to those 90’s filled nights of “My So Called Life”, “Freaks and Geeks”, and “Clueless”. Ah yes, who could forget the infamous Angela Chase who practically lived in plaid shirts and jeans or Cher Horwitz who went with a schoolgirl a. Pure and unadulterated memories!
Featured on Pre-Fall runway shows from 3.1 Phillip Lim to Tommy Hilfiger; it seems that designers are quickly catching up with this undying trend. For good reason to. Little people realize how chic plaid can actually be. For example, a plaid pencil skirt can be sartorially stylish with a cream-colored cable-knit sweater and some chunky gold jewelry. If you want to be a tad bit sexier, take a leather skirt and a turtleneck and pair it with a plaid bomber jacket and ankle booties. Like I said, plaid can be utterly chic; you just have to wrap your head around it first!
