Ah fall, my favorite season out of all the four. Perhaps it’s the picturesque scenery of the seasonal foliage or the return of the infamous Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks. But to be 100% honest, it’s most likely the arrival of all the fresh and exciting fashion designers showcase around that time of year. New York Fashion Week anyone? If you’ve already glanced at some of the recent collections that have already been displayed then maybe you’ve witnessed some reoccurring trends which will no doubt be huge this fall season.
But for all you out there who haven’t, allow me to break it down for you step by step. I’ve gathered a small list of trends which I think will likely be huge come fall. So now there’s no reason not to be caught up when Fashion Week actually does come around!
Envious? Completely. Featured in Fall 2013 RTW collections such as 3.1 Phillip Lim, The Row and St. John, this trend is bound to become huge once autumn rolls around. Shades in deep emerald are probably your best pick when wearing the color. It gives the ensemble a regal and elegant vibe. Trousers, skirts, or a chic trench would be a great way to incorporate the trend into an outfit. Pair it with some gold jewelry for a sophisticated last touch.
To be quite honest, I’m not even sure this trend ever went out of style to begin with. I’ve always felt that regardless of whichever season it is, color-blocking has always been incredibly chic. Will it would seem as if designers agree with me this fall season. From Victoria Beckham to Rag & Bone, the color-blocking trend is evidently obvious. For autumn, it would be best to combine colors close to the autumn color scheme. Shades such as maroon, nude, mustard, cobalt, and of course; green.
3. Chunky Knits
I’m such a huge fan of cable knit, oversized sweaters. They’re entirely appropriate for autumn as well as winter, mixing both elegance and comfort together. The feature that I probably love most about the comfy trend is its versatility. There are so many chic ways to incorporate this particular look into any outfit. Just take a look at brands such as Theory, Ralph Lauren, and The Row; they’ve all gracefully added the trend into their Fall 2013 RTW collections. For those early first days of fall, pair your cable knit with a floral maxi skirt, ankle booties and a cross-body satchel or a pioneer look. When it truly starts to get chilly, combine the look with distressed boyfriend jeans (make sure to roll the hem up a bit) , ankle booties, and a tailored coat in either brown, nude, green or cobalt.
Ah yes, autumn just wouldn’t be complete without the beloved return of plaid. Personally, I’ve become infatuated with the trend throughout the years. At first I was a bit skeptical. I didn’t want to resemble Claire Danes in My So Called Life. But eventually I came around, finding myself welcoming the trend with open arms. This season, plaid is taking a more classy approach as opposed to the typical 90’s version everyone is so familiar with. Think Classic American with masculine meets feminine silhouettes. Just look for inspiration in Tommy Hilfiger or Billy Reid’s Fall 2013 RTW collections and you’ll clearly see the trend making a fabulous appearance. Pair the look with gold jewelry, masculine, oversized coats and you’ve got yourself one, stellar look.
5. Tuxedo Inspired
This is a trend I’m really looking forward to this coming fall season. I’m always inspired by menswear and always searching for ways to glam it up. Luckily for me, designers have found a way to fashionably take that task on. From Robert Rodriguez to Helmut Lang; designers have been experimenting with the glorious trend. For daytime, take a hint from Diesel’s Fall 2013 RTW collection (far right) and pair a fitted blazer with a white, blouse and trousers. For night, trade in the trousers for leather leggings and ankle strap heels. Pure Perfection.
